Whole House Modern Farmhouse Paint Color Palette
While it might not be rocket science, choosing paint colors can feel completely overwhelming. BUT… Choosing the right paint colors will really help to set the tone for each room.
That said, if colors aren’t your thing, I have great news for you!
I’ve put together a done-for-you paint color palette, complete with 12 modern farmhouse paint colors from Sherwin Williams. With it, you’ll receive 7 color combination ideas, plus trim color and room suggestions.
You can grab it here (or scroll down to continue reading the room-by-room color guide).

Living Room
Generally, living rooms are more neutral, and in the modern farmhouse, you’ll often see lots of white. You could go with either a bright, crisp white (like Sherwin Williams High Reflective White) or a warmer white with a yellowish undertone (like Sherwin Williams Alabaster).
Both are popular choices, depending on many different factors. When choosing a white, consider your room’s lighting, other materials in the room, and the overall look you’re going for.
You won’t see a lot of painted accent walls in the modern farmhouse. It’s more common to see architectural features on an accent wall, such as shiplap or a brick fireplace. However, if the space calls for it, you could go with something more subtle (like a sage green) or bold (like navy blue).
Kitchen

White is also common in the modern farmhouse kitchen. But if you’re looking to add just a little bit of color, you might consider a light greige (a blend of gray and beige).
Want even more color? Consider going mainly white in the kitchen, but add a nice little burst of color on the kitchen island. Green and blue are popular choices, and deep bronze is bold, yet surprisingly effective, in this kitchen style.
Complement your kitchen color scheme with wood accents and/or a white subway tile backsplash.
Hallway
Hallways can get pretty dark, especially if there’s no natural light nearby. I recommend sticking with a lighter, neutral color – at least in the modern farmhouse style home. Let it be an extension of the room connecting to the hallway, whether that’s the living room of the foyer.
For example, if the hallway begins in the living room and it’s painted Sherwin Williams Alabaster, then consider painting the hallway in Alabaster as well.
If the hallway is connected to your Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter painted foyer, then you could continue the Revere Pewter into the hallway… Or you could go with something a little lighter if you feel that’s necessary.
Bedroom

You’ll likely want to continue the modern farmhouse style into the main bedroom and guest bedrooms. (Kids’ bedrooms are separate entities and do NOT have to fit into the style of the rest of the house.)
That said, white is fine for a bedroom, but this is also a great place to bring in a little color. Make it warm and cozy with beige, sage green, light blue…. Or, instead, add color to the headboard wall in the form of a deeper blue or green.
Consider darker wood furniture or a dark stained shiplap accent wall behind the headboard.
Bathroom
In the bathroom, a crisp, clean white is always a great choice, or even a light gray. If you want to add in some color, the bathroom vanity is a popular place to do so.
Choose high-durability paint finishes to handle the moisture, especially in a bathroom with a tub/shower.
Dining Room

For the dining room, you could continue using whatever color is in adjacent rooms. However, if the dining room is its own separate room, it might be a great place to go bold.
A deep blue like Benjamin Moore Hale Navy is a popular choice for the dining room. You can paint it on all the walls, one accent wall, or instead as a painted sideboard.
If you’d rather have neutral walls, consider bringing in a little color via a large dining room rug instead. Or perhaps a pretty floral table centerpiece.
Home Office
In the home office, you’ll want a paint color that will boost productivity, rather than distracting you from your work. Neutrals are commonly chosen, of course, although you’re not limited to white or beige. Soft, muted colors like dusty blue, cream, and light green are also great choices.
Lots of light – whether natural or artificial – is crucial int he home office! And, of course, you’ll need to take your lighting into consideration when choosing a paint color.
You have a number of options for your desk. Natural wood, painted white with a wood top, or even painted in a green or blue from your whole house color scheme.
For a functional, yet stylish, touch, consider using chalkboard paint somewhere in your home office. And don’t forget lots of bookshelves!
