If you’re looking for a pretty, neutral pink paint color, then Benjamin Moore First Light is probably at the top of your list. But I’m guessing you have a few questions about it first…

Which is what I’m here for!

Today, we’re covering the LRV of First Light, its undertones, color palette ideas, and a whole lot more. So, without further delay, let’s begin.

What is the LRV of Benjamin Moore First Light?

First Light has a LRV of 77, making it a fairly light and bright color. Never heard this term before? LRV stands for Light Reflectance Value, and it measures the percentage of light a paint color reflects.

LRV runs on a scale from 0% – 100%, 50% being the mid-value paint color. The higher the LRV is, the more light that color will reflect back into the room.

Since LRV is simply a guideline, it can help you predict how light or dark any given color will make the room feel, but it’s not exactly a set standard.

Heads up: Most companies print the LRV on the back of their paint chips, in case you ever want to know the LRV of any particular color.

First Light Undertones

A subtle, delicate shade of pink, First Light has a slightly blue-gray undertone, making it look almost completely neutral. It’s definitely not a peachy pink, which could work to your benefit whether you have a warm or cool palette.

Is First Light a Warm or Cool Color?

First Light is pretty neutral, and can work with both warm and cool hues. Depending on its surroundings, it could pull either warm or cool — however, with its blue-gray undertones, it’s definitely not a warm pink.

How Can I Get a Sample?

The absolute best way I’ve found to try out Benjamin Moore paint colors is to order a 12”x12” peel-and-stick sample from Samplize.

Use code FIRSTFIVE for a discount on your first Samplize order!

Here are a few things to love about these samples:

  1. You can easily move them around from room to room.
  2. They cost MUCH less than traditional sample pots, brushes/rollers, and foam board.
  3. They are more environmentally friendly.

Oh — and they arrive at your doorstep in just 1-3 days, which means no more running out to the store for samples (and then going back when you don’t like how they look in your space). You can’t beat that!

Wondering what other colors play nicely with Benjamin Moore First Light? Since it’s a more neutral hue, you’re not as limited as you would be with a peachy pink.

How Does it Compare to Other Benjamin Moore Colors?

If you’re trying to decide between First Light and a similar Benjamin Moore (or another brand’s) paint color, it can be helpful to understand how they compare. Let’s compare it to another pinkish BM color.

First Light vs. Pink Bliss

As you can see, these two pinkish hues are pretty similar, yet if you look closely, you will notice slight differences. Pink Bliss is just a touch brighter and lighter for those who prefer a more “light and airy” feel, while First Light seems to be a little more “pink”.

Trim Color Recommendations

All set on painting your walls in Benjamin Moore’s First Light? If you’re looking for a trim or cabinet color to accompany this soft, neutral pink, then I have some great recommendations for you.

First Light works best with lighter whites. Because this is such a light pink, choosing a darker white or cream color, or any color with a lot of yellow, will simply look as if you made a mistake.

Of course, you’ll want to grab a sample of any white trim color you’re considering to make sure it works well in your space.
